Timo Werner is Chelsea’s first-choice penalty taker, Frank Lampard has confirmed.
The striker was on the spot twice Wednesday night against Rennes in the Champions League, taking over Jorginho.
The Italian was the number one penalty taker for the Blues, but he missed his two recent tries, triggering a change.
At Stamford Bridge against Rennes, he gladly handed the ball over to Werner, who scored both of them as the Blues ran out 3-0 winners.
“It wasn’t an easy decision because Jorginho has been pretty faultless for us. He missed two recently, then Timo came in and scored one in our last game. I had a conversation with Jorginho and his answer was perfect for a professional in that he doesn’t care who takes them as long as we score.
“That’s how he approaches it so Timo took them tonight. He’s our taker at the moment and he took them very emphatically so I’m happy,”

Prior to his two successive misses, Jorginho had a perfect record from the spot for Chelsea.
