FC Barcelona will turn to Joel Matip if they can’t get their defense goals.
Barca is all out to sign Manchester City Defender Eric Garcia, but with the English side not willing to sell, the club may be forced to look for alternatives.
The Daily Mail notes that the club doesn’t want to invest too much on the defensive line due to the financial effects of coronavirus, and sees Matip as a cheaper choice.
The other player considered by the club to be a ‘low cost center-back’ choice in January is Chelsea Defender Antonio Rudiger. It remains to be seen if Liverpool will allow the player to leave after the injury to their other defenders.
Garcia, however, remains Barca’s prime target with the player refusing to sign a new deal with City despite the Pep Guardiola factor. The player is a huge fan of the Spaniard and will only ink a new deal if the future of the coach is guaranteed in the team.
Joel Matip might have only played three games so far in the 2020/21 Premier League for Liverpool but is expected to have more minutes for the club now that they have been hit by injuries.
