On Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon made his club debut in the London derby against Chelsea, and it was a challenge and a half for sure.
Joe Rodon, who joined Spurs from the English Championship side Swansea City in the summer transfer window, was thrown into the deep end to provide cover for some of the injured defenders and it was going to be a tough feat for the youngster.
“I think he is ready to play,” Mourinho has previously said before the game. “Of course he has not started a match in the Premier League but the Championship is now a high-level competition.”
The Wales international continues to rise to the occasion particularly since his debut for the Swans under Graham Potter during the 2018/19 season and there is just no stopping him.
“He’s got an excellent work ethic,” said Nigel Rees, Swansea’s academy manager said. “That’s something you can’t put into a player. You can give them everything but they’ve got to have that work ethic.
“He was always asking questions, very inquisitive. Always stood out. Always wore his heart on his sleeve.”
Rodon who partnered with Eric Dier maintained a strong partnership in the heart of defence and Dier had nothing but praises for the debutant whom he feels has a strong work ethic.
“To come here and make my debut was a dream come true, hopefully, I can carry on and it can be a successful season,” he said.
“They’re a very good opposition, and I knew I’d get a tough night – I got away with two mistakes, but I’ll learn from it and come back strong.”
