Caesar Perez, the mayor of the Philippines with suspected ties to illicit drugs, was assassinated.
Perez, 66, was the mayor of Los Banos, south of Manila, in the province of Laguna.
Chitadel Gaoiran, a police spokesperson, said he was shot dead by a gunman on Thursday night.
The official had just entered the town hall when he was shot in the head twice.
Perez was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead, Dpa reports.
The deceased was named in President Rodrigo Duterte’s list of politicians with alleged links to drug deals.
Last month, the police said 7,987 suspects were killed in drug war from July 1, 2016 to October 31, 2020.
